I’ve been mostly sheltering in place this week. Actually I’ve been sheltering in the still unfinished garden room, because it’s the coolest of all the rooms. There’s an overhang over the window and door along the front - my brain isn’t working well enough to think of the correct term, but it pretty much prevents most direct sunlight, and as a result it has stayed much cooler than anywhere in the actual house. I even had a sneaky afternoon snooze on the sofa in there after a particularly rubbish sleep the other night. But mostly, I can focus out there so much better than I can in the house, as I’m extremely easily distracted.

Anyway, as a result of being ranted out and really quite hot, I’m keeping it light today with a Heaven Scent instalment. I like to save these up for when I have several things to tell you about, and it’s good timing as I do indeed have lots to share.

Some of my everyday favourites include Cloud 9 by ROADS - I’m on to my second bottle which only happens when I REALLY love a perfume, Ffern Summer 25 - again I’m onto my second, maybe third bottle of this one, and rather guttingly, I have run out of my other everyday favourite Lavanda Violet by Centrale Perfumeria which I used to buy every year in Formentera, but it’s now been discontinued so now I’m forced to have a forlorn sniff of the empty bottle very now and then. I stubbornly refuse to throw it away.

It was the discovery of a new favourite everyday favourite at an event earlier this week that got me thinking about how special ‘everyday’ perfumes are, even if the casual, throwaway title makes it feel less so. To me, these are the really special ones - the ones that you love so much that you want to wear them all the time. The ones that are so special that those close to you will think of you whenever they smell it, where ever that might be. The ones that your coats, jackets and scarves probably smell of and you’re not even aware of it. In my book that’s a special perfume. Not the ones you wear every so often.

It’s always an exciting day when you discover a new everyday fragrance that you fall for head over heels, AND you can still smell it hours later, AND you still love it. That’s the magic combination for me and it doesn’t happen often, but it happened earlier this week, when I did venture out for a few hours I to hear all about new fragrance brand Liz Astor from the fascinating lady herself.

I honestly didn’t expect to find a new favourite, but it happened just like that, and as I’m sitting here writing, I must have stopped to smell my wrist at least twenty times. This is a rare occurrence indeed!
