Renovation Diary: Chapter One
We’re IN. So what’s next?
Well, we’ve been in the new house for three weeks exactly, and I can’t say we’ve unpacked. We’ve slightly unpacked, but I do kind of feel like I’m half camping out in someone else’s house. But with our furniture. It’s weird.
There’s just zero point in unpacking things like books, vinyl, or decorative bits and pieces, and whatever else is in the many unpacked boxes, and filling up rooms with stuff that will need to be packed up and moved again when the renovation starts. We’ll probably even need to move it into storage for a few months so we don’t go completely mad. So we’re pretty much just finding things as we need them and leaving the rest packed.
Being the control freak that I’m realising more and more that I am, I couldn’t partake in the kitchen unpacking on our first full day with Ed, Edie and Edie’s boyfriend, and I had to walk away and leave them to it. As a result, three weeks in, I still don’t know where anything lives and it usually takes two or three goes in wrong cupboards before finding the right one, by which point I’ve often forgotten what I was looking for in the first place. Which of course, absolutely serves me right for being a diva control freak in the first place.
